“Compose a melody to be played in a castle. It should be 8 bars long and in 4/4 time.”

You might wish to compose a melody for a march which reaches a climax at the end e.g. by reaching the highest tonic. Think about the melody’s chord pattern, e.g. reaching the dominant chord at the end of the first phrase. Notice also that some of the following examples include elements of a fanfare at the beginning of the melody.
